Brody – Adopted

Please Note:  Brody is a “feral” dog .. he was not touched by humans for the first few years of his life so to him we are pretty scary.    He will need someone who has dealt with Fearful dogs before and who also have another dog .. he feels the safest when he is with another dog ..
The time is finally coming! I, Brody, will be ready to find my forever home very soon! If you haven’t been following my story for the last few months, allow me to fill you in 🙂
To the vets knowledge, I am a three year old shihtzu, bichon, and/or Maltese mix. I came from a pretty sheltered life, with little, to no human contact. They truly were a scary thing! For the last few months, I’ve been living with a foster family to help me start trusting humans again. And, it’s finally paying off! I would give my foster mom all the credit, but most of that help came from my foster sister. Watching and learning how she trusted her human, I could see that there was nothing to fear. So, if you already have a calm, friendly pup for me to look up to, the chances of me trusting another adult human will be much greater. That being said, I still do have a bit more to be worked on. However, with the help of a positive reinforcement trainer and an incredibly patient [adult] family, the transition into your home will definitely be a lot easier.
When I’m not cuddling with my dog siblings, I enjoy going for small walks around the neighbourhood. I’m pretty easy that way 👍 Speaking of easy, I’m also kennel trained! I prefer to keep it this way too, because if there is ever any guests over, I’d like to know that I have a safe place to retreat until I am comfortable to say hi. Trust me though, it doesn’t take long!

Now having said all that he is still very fearful and if approached too quickly or if you surprise him he may still try and nip ..  he will need a special and patient home who will always be careful with him and never put him in a situation where he will be scared and react .. he is getting better every day but he did have a very bad start in life so patience is key !!

Broken Promises Rescue is a volunteer run, not-for-profit, animal rescue organization located in the lower Vancouver Island. We are a group of long time rescuers that have come together to focus on improving the lives of unwanted, neglected and orphaned animals on Vancouver Island (as well as remote communities and other areas of B.C. if our resources allow us to.) Currently we are seeing many pets overlooked in the shelter system because they have less than desirable qualities. They may have medical or behavioral issues or they may simply be the wrong color, age or breed. At Broken Promise Rescue we believe all animals deserve to experience a life without pain, loneliness or hunger and want them to know what it feels like to be loved and cherished, despite appearance, age or medical condition. We are also dedicated to public education and raising awareness to help end the ongoing abuse, neglect and suffering. Educating children and adults about the responsibilities of animal ownership will go a long way in influencing public opinion on proper animal care, and help mold a more compassionate future. No animal should suffer at the hands of ignorance.
